Mentors in Folklore and Myth

In the old legends and fairytales, mentor figures usually take the form of a mythical creature or an old man or woman, probably a reclusive figure who possesses some form of magic. A very famous example would be Merlin from the Arthurian legends.

Another example would be from Greek mythology. Philoctetes the satyr trained Hercules along with many other famous Greek heroes.
